Q:Okay I love you and your art but I can't seem to wrap my head around your 'underpainting' tehcnique where you paint the underpaint in monochromes with acrylics, What I don't understand is how you add the colors in, was it acrylics too or watercolor?
Thanks, that’s always nice to hear! People do wonder about my color stage so here is what I do. I like to lay in my base colors thin so I overlay them using an airbrush with acrylic paint. It also helps in blending colors nicely. Once I get my colors in and am happy with it I will go in with a paintbrush to build up paint and details. You don’t have to use an airbrush to do this, it’s just something I’ve adopted over the years. You can paint the same way using brushes. I’ve added a pic to illustrate the steps. 1. Underpainting 2. Airbrush color in 3. Paintbrush opaques and details
Thanks for the question!
